A Welcome from the our President
My name is Bruce Wilson, and it is both a privilege and an honour to serve as President of the Rotary Club of Roundhay for the 2026–2027 Rotary year.
I joined the club in 2018 and, from my very first meeting, I was made to feel welcome. Since then, I have had the pleasure of meeting people from many different backgrounds, building lasting friendships and taking part in a wide variety of volunteering, fundraising and community activities. I have also enjoyed listening to many fascinating guest speakers, whose talks have covered an amazing range of subjects.
For me, one of the greatest strengths of Rotary is fellowship. The friendships I have made, together with the social events enjoyed with fellow members and their partners, have enriched my life far beyond my working career. Rotary offers the opportunity to make a real difference while enjoying the company of like-minded people who share a desire to serve their community.
The Rotary Club of Roundhay has a proud history of serving the local community. Chartered in 1961, we have spent more than 65 years supporting worthwhile causes, raising funds and giving our time to help others. While we continue to value the traditions that have shaped our club, we are equally committed to embracing new ideas and responding to the changing needs of our community.
We meet most Monday evenings at 7.30 pm at Leeds Golf Club in north Leeds. Our meetings combine fellowship, a meal, club business and, on many occasions, an interesting guest speaker. Our members come from a wide range of professions and backgrounds, bringing with them a wealth of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm. It is this diversity that enables us to work together effectively and make a positive impact.
Over the years, we have been proud to support organisations such as the Stroke Support Club, Martin House Children’s Hospice, CATCH, St Gemma’s Hospice, Leeds Dads and the Joanna Project, as well as many other local charities and community organisations. Through Rotary, we also contribute to national and international projects, providing support during humanitarian emergencies and helping communities across the world.
As President, I am proud to lead a club whose members are united by friendship, service and a genuine desire to help others. Whether through fundraising, volunteering or simply offering support where it is needed, we believe that even small actions can make a lasting difference.
If you are interested in giving something back to your community, making new friends and becoming part of a welcoming and active organisation, I would be delighted to invite you to visit us. You will always receive a warm welcome at the Rotary Club of Roundhay, and we look forward to meeting you.
