Several members and partners of the club attended the District Conference held at the Spa Complex in Scarborough over two days. The conference was a grand affair with over 400 delegates attending. The event provided the opportunity for Rotarians to listen to many inspirational speakers which included Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Baronet Floella Benjamin. It also gave delegates the platform to meet with like-minded people and share ideas to help the disadvantaged and make this world a better place to live.

We listened to Jasmine Harrison, the young British adventurer and the first woman to swim the length of the UK between Land’s End and John O’Groats, who loves to travel and tackle new challenges with two World Records under her belt. It was thought provoking to listen to Luke Addison of Peacejam, Chair of Rotaract in GB & Ireland in 2016/17. Luke works tirelessly with young people on international peace education programmes in supporting them in becoming active citizens and peace ambassadors.

The conference was spread over two days with Rotary showcasing the very many projects it supports. Saturday evening saw the delegates and partners come together for a formal black-tie dinner followed by entertainment from the ABBA tribute band, Super Troopers. It was a fun night to mark the end of another successful District Conference. Everyone enjoyed the camaraderie, fellowship took home many ideas to pursue over the course of the coming months.
