Leeds Mencap Vinery Centre

Leeds Mencap's Senior Fundraiser Catherine Storey receives a cheque for £300 from Shirley Wetherill & Linda Filewood on behalf of the Rotary Club of Roundhay

Official opening of Leeds Mencap Vinery Centre

Roundhay Rotary Club members Shirley, Linda and Carol attended the opening of the new Leeds Mencap Centre located in the Vinery Centre.  Whilst there we presented a cheque for £300 from the Rotary Club of Roundhay.  We were really pleased to see that the Rotary Club already had a plaque on the wall as one of the partners that have supported Leeds Mencap over the years.

Leeds Mencap outgrew its original premises in 2013 and needed to search for alternative solutions. Jimbo’s Fund pledged £1million to help fund a new centre and after an extensive consultation process plans for the Vinery Centre were drawn up.  Considerable fundraising followed to meet the extra £1.6million required to finish the new building.

The Vinery Centre which was completed in Spring 2016  is a fabulous facility for the children, young people and families that attend as well as a great resource for the local community.  Danny McGuire, the Leeds Rhinos Captain and Leeds Mencap Ambassador was joined by the Lord Mayor in opening the centre'.  The blue tape was cut before guests were entertained by three talented young singers and musicians.  After a lovely afternoon tea we had a tour of the facilities which are amazing, both inside and out.

We all had a thoroughly enjoyable evening, left inspired by all that we saw and looking forward to our next visit.
